2021 RC 125: Sits Close to the R15

The 2021 RC 125 may feature a smaller engine compared to the newly launched Yamaha R15. However, in some aspects, it is pretty close to the Japanese monster!

There are rumours about the 2021 KTM RC 125. The rumours say the motorcycle is going to be launched in a matter of days because a few days back, the Austrian brand released an official teaser video of the motorcycle. As usual, the teaser obviously revealed little about the motorcycle but given how the 2021 390 has been put together by the brand, we expect the 125 to give a tough fight to the newly launched Yamaha R15.

One thing we know for sure about the RC 125 is its engine spec. According to a leaked document, the upcoming RC is likely to be powered by the same engine which is employed in the present gen model. The present gen engine is a 125cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder unit that produces a peak power of 14.5hp at 9,250rpm. Compared to the RC, the Yamaha R15 makes 18.1hp of power. However, the upcoming RC 125 is light and therefore, the power-to-weight ratio of the motorcycle has increased.

The motorcycle has a reduced weight of around 4.4 kilograms because of the new wheels and brakes; two elements that are taken straight off the elder 2021 RC 390 sibling. Other concerns have been taken care of this time by the brand as the upcoming RC is likely to feature a 13.7 litres fuel tank and therefore, the motorcycle is likely to serve those who are into sport riding but also a bit of touring.

The RC 125 is prone to derive more elements from the elder sibling, such as adjustable clip-on handlebars, a lower seat height of 824 millimetres and an increased ground clearance of 158 millimetres. Since it is a 125cc motorcycle, we do not expect the RC 125 to feature a lean-sensitive traction control system. However, dual-channel ABS is likely to be there along with a supermoto mode.

Given how the RC 125 features the same fairing kit and front LED headlight setup seen on the RC 390, the small sports motorcycle may be equipped with a new TFT digital instrument cluster. However, whether it will feature the KTM’s ‘My Ride’ system is the question hovering on our minds at the present moment.

Altogether, the RC 125 looks like a capable motorcycle and in case it is equipped with the electronic aids found on the 390, it will undoubtedly sit pretty close to the Yamaha R15.
