2022 KTM 390 ADV: Features New Modes, Dearer by 7k

Mechanically, the 2022 390 Adventure is unchanged. However, it features two new modes, a new colour scheme and a new price-tag that has gone heftier compared to the last-gen iteration

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has launched the all-new 2022 390Adventure in India at INR 3.35 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. Mechanically, the motorcycle is unchanged, but the new model’s price-tag is heftier (dearer by INR 7,000) than the last-gen iteration. Now, the question is;what makes the mechanically unchanged motorcycle expensive by INR 7,000?

What is the importance of this article?

The KTM 390 ADV has been a strong contender in the 300-400cc adventure-touring motorcycle segment. Therefore, motorcycle enthusiasts must know the motorcycle’s arrival along with the changes/updates it features for the 2022 calendar year.

What’s new?

The changes/updates are very minimal, but they are notable. KTM has armed the 390 ADV with an updated traction control system that now features two new modes such as Street and Off-road. When the Street mode is activated, the ABS kicks in immediately to intervene in the smallest of slip-ups. On the other hand, when the Off-road mode is activated, the ABS comes alive a little later. In short, it allows the rear tyre to skid a bit.

To enhance the overall off-roading capability of the 390 ADV, KTM has armed the motorcycle with brand-new five-spoke alloy rims. In short, the motorcycle no more carries the 12-spoke alloy rims. As per KTM, the new five-spoke alloys are much more capable of enduring impact and therefore, the chances of them cracking or getting damaged are less during hardcore off-roading.

The last change or update of the all-new 2022 390 ADV is the introduction of a colour scheme. While KTM has retained its hot KTM Factory Racing Blue colour scheme, the Austrian manufacturer has introduced the Dark Galvano paint job. The Dark Galvano variant is a combination of matt black and matt silver along with the 390 KTM graphics in orange on the fuel tank.

What’s old?

What’s old is the 373.4cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that continues to generate 43hp of power and a peak torque of 37Nm. The rest of the hardware, such as trellis frame, suspension setup, brakes, seat, crash guard, headlight, taillight, indicators and instrument cluster, is similar to the old-gen KTM 390 ADV.

Last but not the least, is the price hike justified? In our book of thoughts, given the new updates, the answer is a yes.
