3 Hidden Historical Truths That None Told Us About

Time often wraps events into the peculiar unfolding, as history witnesses.

What are the hidden truths that escaped our notice? What might have once seemed real could quickly be revealed to be something different or a manufactured fact getting revealed in due course.

There’ve been many instances of history being altered; however, the credibility of ‘history’s judged by the common perception. Yet, the fact remains, no amount of manipulation can alter what took place, the objective history.

Here are the three most unique historical anecdotes that might have escaped our notice.

Feminism Movement Was NEVER Hostile To Men

According to Linda Gordon, no other single social movement has arguably been through such misrepresentation as to the women's rights movement of the 1960s and 70s. These representations presented a stereotypically flawed caricature of single women who were mainly from a middle-class background. They are thought to be concerned with just ‘sex issues', for example, pornography, abortion rights, sexual harassment and rape. Furthermore, they were considered to be 'hostile to men'. These are just that, nasty rumours created to maintain the social power imbalance between misogyny and Feminism.

The man-hating feminist myth has been carefully created to aid and abet misogyny. If anything, the Feminist movement leads to more equality. Even many men have claimed to be Feminists.

What Medieval Castles Were Really Like

Our age has romanticized medieval castles into something surreal and massive, an idealized version that often seems far fetched from the reality of these castles. Mostly it’s the movies that have to bear the blame; Hollywood showcases medieval castles as something unreal. Fresh out of a fairytale. However, in reality, these castles were generally crowded with employees and visitors, busy, cold and dark, not to forget the accompanying smell of sewer. Indeed far from the glamorous fairytale look of the movies. They were made of stones adding to the defence tactics of fortification. Initially, they had basic designs with smaller windows and no passage for fresh air or light. It wasn’t before the 1200s that castles began to be constructed with bigger rooms for windows.

Medieval Era People Were Obsessive-Compulsive Bathers

Know who loved to bathe? Medieval era peeps. It’s a massive misconception that in the Medieval era, people did not prioritize hygiene. Instead, they'd build public baths to celebrate a community feeling around getting clean. Public baths in medieval societies were a place to socialize while getting clean. Being clean was a gesture of good manners, and a smelling foul was considered a sin of sorts in most medieval communities.

The rumour of medieval societies not prioritizing hygiene might have stemmed from The Black Death period during the 14th century. But, then, it was a time when doctors suggested against bathing in fear of contagion.
