3 Ways Advertising Influence Our Choice Of Food

Most companies today rely more on the sales of their products than on the health of their customers!

All market-driven companies rely on advertising to make their business successful. Be it a small company or a world-famous company. The more popular a company is, the more money they spend on advertising. From clothes to bathroom tiles, there's nothing we don't see advertising in digital, print or electronic media. Food companies rely on advertising to make their products more attractive to consumers. There is a lot of competition between well-known and expensive food companies in the market over who can reach consumers faster.

Influence Of Advertisements On Food Choices: How Does It Happen?

When we consume digital content, when we watch our favourite shows on TV, when we turn the pages of a newspaper every morning or when we get stuck in a traffic jam, we are surrounded by thousands of advertisements everywhere. We are naturally fascinated as consumers when we see colourful foods, flashy taglines, lots of discounts or promotional offers. We really get influenced when we see our favourite celebrities promoting those food companies. In this article we will discuss in detail about 3 powerful methods that help food companies increase sales of their products and influence customers as well as hold on to the market.

Usage Of Dazzling Bright Colors:

Bright and warm colours easily catch our attention. That's why food companies are always trying to make their ads colourful. From the company's mascot to the packaging and menu card - the usage of warm colours is very noticeable. In many cases, these companies claim to refrain from using 'any added colour' or 'artificial fragrances' - but the veracity of these claims is largely questionable.

Flashy Taglines:

If a company simply says 'Our fried chicken is finger licking good' instead of saying 'We sell fried chicken' then the customer's mind can be won very easily. That's why companies are constantly using new, flashy tag lines to popularize the demand and appreciation of their food products. The use of taglines such as 'Taste the Thunder' in soft drink advertisements or 'Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye' in chocolate advertisements has greatly increased the demand and popularity of these speciality products. One of the most widely used marketing strategies by these companies is to apply timely one-liners keeping in mind the customer's emotions, needs and 'trends'. However, in the wake of these fancy taglines, companies often make claims about their products that differ greatly from reality. Needless to say, there are a lot of artificial sweeteners, artificial colours and preservatives added to bottled fruit juices, no matter how much the product claims to be 'Fresh And Juicy' in the tagline!

Celebrity Brand Face:

If I, as an ordinary middle-class person, my celebrity idol says that I can reach the pinnacle of success in life just by eating a company's 'Paan Masala', then I am bound to be affected by such claims. I would really forget at that moment how harmful the product actually is to my health! If a child sees in an advertisement that one of the most popular celebrities in India eats chips of a certain company and praises them, then he will ask his parents for chips of that brand. Celebrity Idols are very capable of controlling the mass mentality of our country and that is why these famous brands want to get them in the advertisements for their products even though these celebrities are extremely expensive! Our awareness as customers is highly desirable here. We need to understand that the success of one of the best cricketers in India cannot be due to regular consumption of any healthy drink alone or glamorous and slim Bollywood heroine prefers to buy bottled fruit juice from the market instead of eating whole fresh fruit! Advertising alone cannot completely affect our eating habits if we as consumers are aware.
