3 Ways to fix smelly towels

Does your towel still smell after washing it with clean water? Scroll below for ways to fix it.

After a long and refreshing shower, the last thing you want is to wipe yourself with a smelly towel and take away that clean feeling.

The top reason for smelly towels could be that you are leaving your towel wet for a long time. The golden rule for keeping your towel fresh and smell-free is drying it completely every day, even though you do not wash it daily. It doesn’t matter if you use your washing machine or the sun, as long as it completely dries.

But after drying it completely, does the stench refuse to leave? Try the below ways to fix it.

  • Only vinegar
Instead of mixing smelly towels with other clothes, give them their own full load in your washing machine. Add one cup full of white vinegar to the load and run the washing machine at the hottest possible setting. Remember to not add any detergent or fabric softener.

After that, leave the towels in the washing machine and run a second load in the normal setting with detergent. The vinegar kills all the lingering bacteria and gives you fresh smell-free towels.

  • The powerhouse combination of baking soda and vinegar
Baking soda and vinegar are the powerhouses of the kitchen. They also use their dual power to fix your smelly towels. For this strategy, you will need to run two only towel cycles.

In the first cycle, add one-fourth cup of baking soda and run the hottest possible cycle on your washing machine. After that run a second cycle, where you add one full cup of vinegar. The hot temperature combined with double ingredients will kill all the sticky germs in your towels and make them smell fresh again.

  • Microwave the towels
If your hand or kitchen towels are full of smell, then moisten them and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Leave the towels in the microwave for at least 10 minutes to avoid burning your hands and fingers.

The powerful effect of the microwave will kill the bacteria and make your hand towels smell clean and fresh again.

If none of these ways works then see if your washing machine is the problem. You can run an empty cycle at the hottest possible setting and add two cups of vinegar to kill bacteria inside the washing machine.

Who knew vinegar and baking soda has so many uses?
