4Tricks for choosing the perfect coffee

Are you a coffee lover? Learn how to pick the perfect coffee.

Deciding on which coffee would suit your taste buds can be challenging. There are many brands in the market and that doesn’t make the job easy. But we are here to help you. Below we give you a list of tips and tricks that will assist in finding the perfect coffee.

Type of coffee beans

In the market today, there are two main types of coffee beans sold, Robusta and Arabica. While the former has a bitter taste, the latter is slightly acidic with a delicate taste. Since these beans have varying growing conditions, they can taste different from one harvested country to another.

The coffee roast

The raw green coffee bean that is freshly harvested tastes like green pepper. The roasting process of the beans gives it the familiar aroma of a coffee shop. You need to identify what type of roast do you like better, light or dark. If you like your coffee to have a smoother taste, you should opt for dry and light-coloured coffee beans. Alternatively, if you prefer a bolder and bitter coffee, then dark roasts should be your choice.

Ground coffee or whole beans?

Many people prefer buying whole beans instead of ground coffee, as the latter can go stale quickly. So if you want your coffee to the last longer, buy whole beans and a grinder online. But the coffee needs to be grounded to the right size depending on the equipment. While espresso machines need fine ground coffee, filter coffee needs a medium. Lastly, the French press coffee needs coarser grounded coffee. If you are still buying grounded coffee, check the labels to choose between the right sizes.

Single-origin or blended?

Both these coffee beans can be very different. Single-origin coffee beans are sourced from one location and they are seasonal and grown in small batches. Mostly, these beans are roasted lightly to ensure the unique flavour and aroma is highlighted. This is best suited for black coffee drinkers. Blended coffee is normally beans mixed from different regions to give taste, aroma and smoothness. This coffee generally plays on the notes of citrus, chocolate and more.

Coffee is a personal taste and what you might like the next person would not. Therefore, you need to keep experimenting to find the perfect balance for you.
