Shakespeare has always been a great inspiration for Bollywood and his 'Romeo and Juliet' has been adapted many times by the Bollywood filmmakers. Two people of different cultural backgrounds fall in love with each other and get married, which lead them to a very tragic end; 'Romeo and Juliet' has everything what Indian people would love to witness in a film. Several Bollywood filmmakers have interpreted this tragedy in their own way and depicted that on the big screen. Some of those films became huge successful at the box office and gained cult status for their interesting interpretation and unconventional storytelling.

  1. Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981): Directed by K. Balachander, 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye' was an unofficial adaptation of 'Romeo and Juliet'.
