5 Most beautiful lakes in the US

Leave beaches behind for these stunning lakes.

Summer equals beaches for almost everyone. But it’s time to leave them behind for gorgeous lakes. With breezy winds, clear waters and sun-filled backdrops, the below lakes are some of the most stunning in the United States.

Lake Tahoe in California/Nevada

One of the prettiest lakes in the US, Lake Tahoe is a favourite destination among tourists and locals. Mountains surrounding the crystal clear waters reflect on the lake, making it a photographer’s paradise. Tourists also love the national parks that surround the lake. For adventure enthusiasts, the area of the lake has hoards of winter sports like snowmobile riding, hiking, bicycling and skiing.

Santeetlah Lake in North Carolina

Many people claim that this is the most beautiful lake in North America. This lake is the outcome of a dam that was created in 1928 for providing hydroelectric power to the area. This manmade water body has around 120kms of shoreline and more than 300 km of hiking trails. The lake permits activities like boating and fishing with an opportunity to camp on the lakeside.

Yellowstone Lake in Wyoming

Surrounded by the majestic Beartooth and Absaroka mountains, Yellowstone Lake is one of the most geologically active areas in the world. More than 2 million people visit this national park every summer. But it is also a sight to see during winters. The icy landscape serves as the perfect backdrop for the bubbling geysers located along the West Thumb shoreline.

Lake Powell in Utah and Arizona

Located in Arizona and Utah, Lake Powell is the second-largest man-made reservoir in the US. It is a popular tourist attraction amongst people who are travelling from California to Arizona. The lake also serves as the perfect base for exploring national parks in southern Utah and the sites in northern Arizona. We recommend visiting the lake in conjunction with Grand Canyon or Monument Valley.

Lake Jocassee in South Carolina

Located in Devils Fork State Park, this 9000-acre body of water is the ideal spot for trout fishing. People who love adventure sports can also take advantage of the trails that feature the rare Oconee bell wildflowers during the spring season. And adding to this attraction is the mountain streams and waterfalls that fill up this lake.
