5 simple home remedies to get rid of heartburn

These remedies may be effective when you are suffering from heartburn.

Heartburn is a common health issue that affects people of all age groups. Simply put, the term refers to the burning sensation that appears in your chest and then travels up to the throat as well as neck. Also, the condition creates a bitter taste in the mouth and makes it hard for you to swallow food. It occurs when the stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus, for various reasons such as smoking, obesity, poor diet, excessive caffeine intake, taking certain medications, and more. If you suffer from heartburn frequently, take the matter seriously and do consult with a doctor. However, there are certain simple remedies that you can also try to get relief from the symptoms.

Ginger: Ginger is widely recognized as one of the most effective remedies for heartburn. It contains gingerols that soothe the digestive system. Also, it has several other compounds that alleviate acidity in the stomach, which in turn reduces your risk of developing heartburn. For the best results, consume raw ginger regularly.

Garlic: A powerhouse of antioxidants, garlic is another effective remedy for heartburn. It kills the pathogenic microorganisms - which sometimes trigger heartburn and several other digestion-related issues. You can eat one or two cloves of raw garlic daily. However, make sure to not consume too much raw garlic as it may possess certain side effects.

Baking Soda: As per some evidence, baking soda makes an ideal remedy for occasional heartburn. It contains alkaline pH that helps neutralize the acid content in the stomach, thus providing temporary relief to the heartburn symptoms. All you need to do is mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with a glass of water and drink it slowly everytime the condition occurs.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar has acetic acid that is known to relieve GERD symptoms - which include heartburn along with indigestion and acid reflux. It does so by neutralizing the acid content in your stomach. All you need to do is dilute a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into a glass of warm water and drink the solution slowly after your meal.

Chewing Gum: Believe it or not, chewing gum does wonder when it comes to relieving heartburn symptoms. When you chew the gum, it increases saliva production and makes you swallow more - both help clear the acidity in your mouth. Chew bicarbonate gum to get the maximum results.

Apart from these, you can also go for banana, clove, basil leaves, pineapple juice, etc.
