5 Stunning natural attractions in Iceland

Visit heaps of incredible natural places during your visit to Iceland.

Iceland is increasing in popularity as a tourism destination. It is located at the edge of the ArcticCircle and in one of the most active volcano spots in the world. From bubbling hot springs and breathtaking waterfalls to glittering glacier lagoons, it has countless natural wonders.

Here we give you some of the must-see natural attractions in Iceland.

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

One of the most iconic waterfalls in Iceland, Seljalandsfoss is located about two and half hours southeast of Reykjavik. We recommend taking a walk behind the 60-meter high falls to see this stunning beauty. However, during the winter months, the walk is closed, as it can get icy and, thus, is unsafe. Take a feel of the countryside with the lush green setting that surrounds the waterfall.

Great Geyser

The Great Geyser is Iceland’s most famous geothermal field, located in the south-western part This natural spot has been active for more than 10,000 years. Geysers are caused when the surface water makes its way down for about 2,000 meters. Once they reach the boiling point, they will spout the hot water with steam. Both these natural occurrences are very fascinating to watch.

Blue Lagoon

Considered one of the 25 wonders of the world, Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa of crystal clear water. While it is mostly a natural attraction, a swim-up bar and other modern conveniences are added to accommodate large groups. Roam around the vast lagoon and find various hot spots. An area also has silica-based mud to rub on your face for a spa treatment. Look for a small waterfall that is tucked in the corner of the lagoon, which will give a water-driven back and shoulder massage.

Jökulsárlón

Jökulsárlón is an 80-year-old glacial lagoon, which started to form in the early 20th century because of warming temperatures. The glacier started to recede from the Atlantic Ocean forming a lake. The lake is filled with glacial water and chunks of ice that have broken off the glacier’s tip. The site almost feels like something made out of a movie set. You can either watch the lake from far or go on a boat ride on the lagoon.

Visit these natural wonders to come back with a pocket full of memories and stunning photographs.
