Reading has many benefits, from reducing stress and increasing vocabulary to improving memory, concentration and focus. Apart from that, it is a source of escape from the daily ruckus of life.

All avid readers wish they could read more. However, their schedules and motivation fall short of their wishes. But there are things you can do to go through the book stack you have been collecting.

Follow the tips below to help you read and learn more.

  • Define and set a reading goal
Set a reading goal to figure out how much you need to read in a month or week or day. However, remember to set attainable book. Like for example if you easily get through one book a month then up that to maybe two. When you don’t over commit or stress yourself out during reading, you will be able to read fast and concentrate more.
  • Read books that attract you
It doesn’t matter if you read fiction or non-fiction books, as long as you enjoy it. When you pick a book that you enjoy, you will not be able to put it down and finish it easily. Never read for the “sake of it” or because “you have to”, as it will slow down your reading process. Find books that spark your interest, and you will notice that you can read more.
  • Quit books you don’t enjoy
You pick a book thinking that you will enjoy it. But mid-way you realize that it does not interest you and seems more like a chore. That’s the time to quit the book and move on. It is completely okay to quit books that you don’t enjoy because that would give you more free time to read books that you enjoy.
  • Make reading a part of your routine
Make reading a part of your daily routine to remain on track of your reading goals. Instead of finding out time each day, allocate a fixed time to reduce procrastination.
  • Always carry a book with you
You can always find the opportunity to read. From your morning commute to waiting in line at the grocery store, you can take the opportunity of these unused times to pick up a book and start reading. And that can only happen when you have a book in hand at all times.
