5 Ways to expand your social circle and make friends

Looking to go out of your usual social circle? Scroll below for some tips.

There are many reasons why a person would like to make new friends, from moving to a new city or wanting to advance their career. Whatever may be the reason; with a little effort, you can easily expand your social circle and make new friends.

Here we give you ways and tips on making new friends.

Walk around your neighbourhood

Take a half an hour walk around your neighbourhood and see what it has to offer. It may be a small café where you can get to know your barista or a walk in the park where you can say hello to a fellow jogger. If you have fear of a social situation, you can bring along a friend or roommate with you.

Join a fitness class

Are you a part of a fitness class? If not this might be a good way to meet different people. But remember instead of bolting after each class, hang around and talk to the teacher or the fellow students. The same situation applies to arriving early. Instead of standing in awkward silence, strike up a conversation with the person next to you.

Volunteer with an organization

Did you know that you form the strongest associations with people who have the same values as you for helping the community? Sharing fundamentals can help build a strong foundation for future friendships. When you volunteer with an organization, you work together for a long time that can lead to a strong bonding experience.

Attend events

If you are looking to expand your career, it might be a good opportunity to attend networking events in your field. Alternatively, you can also attend regular events in your city like festivals, concerts or movies in the park. Finding events that are popular with your age group will be a great opportunity to socialize.

Get closer to your acquaintances

If you are not into attending events or wanting to go out of your comfort zone, you can try looking at your acquaintances. It is easier to form friendships with someone you may know than with a stranger. You never know that they also might be in the same boat as you.

We know it can be tough to make new friends. But all you need to do is take the first step.
