6 Reasons sweet potato can give you fabulous skin

Apart from health benefits, sweet potatoes also help with fabulous glowing skin.

Rich in vitamin C and E, sweet potatoes contain nutrients essential for healthy and glowing skin. While most sweet potatoes are orange in colour, some are purple, white, yellow, pink and red. Irrespective of the colour, here are some benefits of the vegetable for your skin.

Reduces eye puffiness

Rubbing regular potatoes under your eyes can ease the puffiness. However, sweet potatoes contain rich nutrients also help reduce the bags under your eyes. Slice some of the sweet potatoes and rub them directly under your eyes to see the effect.

Anti-ageing effects

Damage to skin cells can increase the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The anthocyanins in sweet potatoes have anti-ageing properties. Anthocyanins are a type of flavonoid antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress to cells.

Skin rejuvenation

Sweet potatoes are high in beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A once inside your body. Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for cell production and growth that can be ingested with this sweet vegetable.

Protection from UV damage

Prolong exposure to UV increases the risk of skin cancers. However, sweet potatoes infuse your body with healthy levels of folate that acts as a protective layer against UV damages.

Moisturizes the skin

Sweet potatoes are high in potassium and pantothenic acid, which helps in moisturizing the skin when applied to the skin topically through a facemask or directly.

Collagen production

The sweet vegetable contains vitamin C that is both an antioxidant and a vital nutrient for the production of collagen. Vitamin C also helps brighten up any hyperpigmentation spots and perverse the inherent plumpness of the skin.

Sweet potatoes can either be consumed or applied topically.

To make a sweet potato facemask, boil some of the sweet vegetable and add a pinch of ginger powder, drops of honey and milk. Mix it well before applying.

To prepare a sweet potato dish, we do not recommend deep-frying or cooking them. You should boil or steam them to help preserve their essential nutrients and slow-release carbohydrates. Boil or steam them for 30 minutes, mash them and sprinkle some butter, herbs and spice on top. You can also add them to salads and stews.

Enjoy this vegetable for beautiful skin.
