Thailand, a nation in Southeast Asia, ranks fifth among the world's biggest countries. Thailand's national rail network is extensive, and the country's highway system covers the whole country. Despite this, demand for domestic flights remains high. Keep reading to learn which airlines provide this service and to which destinations. All of the following aviation companies originate in Thailand. Domestic flights in Thailand are not limited to these companies; international airlines may also offer service within the country.

Bangkok Airways

Thai and neighboring South and Southeast Asian locations are served by Bangkok Airlines, a regional airline. The primary hub for the airline is Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. Subsidiary hubs include Phuket International Airport & Samui Airport, and Chiang Mai is the airline's main emphasis. There are Airbus A319s, Airbus A320s, and ATR 72s in Bangkok Airlines' air fleet.

Nok Air

Nok Air is a budget Thai airline that flies domestically and to several neighboring countries as well as overseas locations in India, China, Japan, Laos, Burma, and Vietnam. Bangkok-Don Mueang Airport, Chiang Mai Airport, and Phuket Airport are the airline's three main hubs.

Thai Air Asia

The Thai subsidiary of the Malaysian regional carrier Air Asia, Thai Air Asia is a Thai-based low-cost airline. Chiang Rai, Bangkok-Don Mueang, Hat Yai, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Pattaya/U-Tapao, and Phuket are only a few of the many airports in Thailand that serve as bases for the airline. Thai Air Asia provides domestic and international flights using aircraft of Airbus A320, A320neo, and A321.

Thai Air Asia X

Thai Air Asia X is a partnership between the Thai Air Asia subsidiary in Malaysia and the Thai Air Asia subsidiary in Thailand. The airline operates only international flights out of its Bangkok-Don Mueang airport hub and does not provide local flights. The airline flies Airbus A330s, both the smaller A330-300 and the larger A330-900.

Thai Lion

Thai Lion Lion Air is just a Thai airline wholly unit of the Indonesian national airline and uses the Lion Air name and logo. There are many local and foreign locations to choose from, including 14 cities in Thailand.

Thai Airways

The Thai government officially recognizes Thai Airways International as the national airline. The airline used to serve a lot of different local locations in Thailand but has since cut those routes and only flies to four major towns in the country now. Because of Thai's membership in the Star Alliance, travelers can sign up for the airline's Royal Orchid air miles club. There are now Airbus A350s, Boeing 777s, and Boeing 787s in the airline's fleet. Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi Airport is Thai's main hub, however, they also have a secondary hub at Phuket Airport.

Thai Smile

Thai Airlines International owns 100 percent of Thai Smile. Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok serves as the primary hub for the airline, while Chiang Mai International Airport serves as a minor hub. With a fleet airline Airbus A320 aircraft, Thai Smile now services 16 domestic destinations throughout Thailand.
