Eye redness is an irritating condition as it makes you look sick and comes up with several other issues such as itching, headache, excessive tears, pain etc. While it mostly happens due to seasonal allergies, several other factors like smoke, air pollution, chemical exposure, overexposure to sunlight etc. can also cause eye redness by making the small blood vessels located in the eye surface dilate. If the condition is not serious, you can definitely use the following home remedies to treat it at home.

Cold Compress: This is the easiest and one of the most effective home remedies to treat eye redness. The cold temperature fights inflammation and swelling around the eyes, relaxes the blood vessels and soothes itchiness; all of which result in reducing the redness in your eyes. You can either dip a soft cloth in cold water or wrap some ice cubes in a cotton towel and place it on your closed eyelids for 15 minutes.

Cucumber: The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of cucumber soothe irritation, reduce puffiness and shrink the blood vessels around the eyes; all of which help in treating eye redness. Take a refrigerated cucumber, cut two slices of it and place them on your closed eyelids for 20 minutes.
