Hollywood is famous for making franchise and spin-offs movies and there have been times when the sequel or the spin-offs movies were actually better than the original movie. Here we have curated a list of five spin-offs that were better than the original.
Bumblebee
The Transformers franchise is not actually a critic’s favorite but Bumblebee, a spin-off of a character from the Transformers movie was applauded by the critics and audience alike.
Bumblebee which was released in 2018 was a movie based on a character from the Transformers movie franchise. Unlike the original, Bumblebee got applause from critics also who gave positive reviews to the movie. It was a box-office success also along with being critically acclaimed.
Hobbs and Shaw
Hobbs and Shaw is a 2019 movie that tells the story of the characters played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham separately from the original film series.
The famous Fast and Furious has its own up and down with few movies being liked and few being criticized but when Dwayne Johnson joined the movie in Fast 5, it elevated the quality of the franchise and Jason Statham joined the franchise with the 7th movie of the series. Both these actors featured separately in the movie Hobbs and Show playing the characters from Fast and Furious series only but it was not a sequel to the earlier Fast and Furious movies but a spin-off that did quite well commercially.
Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey was a superhero movie and part of the DCEU, the movie universe of DC comic characters. It was a spin-off from the Suicide Squad movie.
Suicide Squad when released got lots of flak from critics and audiences and many found the movie quite underwhelming. So when Warner Bros announced the spin-off movie Birds of Prey with the character of Harley Quinn, many were apprehensive about the movie but surprisingly, the movie was quite good and better than the Suicide Squad.
Logan
The X-Men franchise got mixed responses from the critics and audience with some being liked and some being criticized but Logan which a spin-off was liked by all.
The X-Men film franchise had many hits and misses as while movies like the first two X-Men movies were applauded by all, future movies like X-MEN Apocalypse and X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn’t find many takers. The only thing that was always good in this movie franchise is the character of Wolverine played by Huh Jackman. When Logan was released, which was a solo Wolverine movie, it got universal acclaim and many considered it one of the best superhero movies.
