Chiang Mai National Museum

Situated near the famous Wat Jet Yod, this main museum of northern Thailand is still under the patronage of Their Royal Majesties, the King and Queen. It has six sections of exhibits, right from Chiang Mai's prehistory to its present and future, exploring the ecology and geography of the north apart from prehistoric settlements.

Wat Chedi Luang

This temple was built between 1385 and 1402, during the reign of King Saen Muang Ma. Its massive chedi (pagoda) can be seen from the Chiang Mai skyline and the temple was once home to the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most sacred religious relic.

Wat Bupparam

This traditional Lanna Style temple, previously known as the Royal Hall of Chao Kawilorot, features two large seated Buddha images. Visit this temple if you are keen to learn more about contemporary religious art or head to Wat Chetawan and Wat Mahawan, which are located nearby.

Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre

Built as a modern multi-media museum and cultural education centre, this place houses a lot of media including scale models, enlarged photos, wall murals and text in Thai and English. It is a beautiful example of post-colonial Thai architecture and people come here to witness the music exhibitions and historical displays.

Wat Phan Tao

Wat Phan Tao means "Monastery of a Thousand Kilns", which refers to the several Buddha images within the magnificent Wat Chedi Luang. Earlier, this place was the residence of Chiang Mai's king, Chao Mahawong, but now functions as a monastery, which is open to the public.

Lanna Folklife Museum

Located alongside the Chiang Mai Historical Centre, this museum’s exhibition is all about the people who live and have lived in the region. You can experience their daily activities through wax works and relics.

SuanBuak Hat Park

Although you might not find as much green space as you might expect in Chiang Mai Old City, the SuanBuak Hat Park is perfect for a chilled out afternoon to laze under the trees or do some aerobics, yoga and tai chi and finally, enjoy a sip of beverage at the small coffee shop.
