8 Indian beaches with the Blue Flag certification

Check out the list of eight 'Blue Flag' certified beaches across various parts of India.

The Blue Flag certification is an internationally recognized tag given to the most eco-friendly beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators. This prestigious tag is awarded (by a Denmark-based agency named 'Foundation for Environment Education') on the basis of 33 stringent criterias such as the water quality, environmental management, safety and services etc. There are over 4500 sites with the Blue Flag certification from around 50 countries in the world. Now, India is home to eight beaches that have received the iconic status so far. These belong to the cleanest as well as safest beaches on the planet.

Kappad: Kappad Beach is a historically significant site located in Kozhikode town, Kerala. The beach seems very secluded with silvery sands, pristine water along with coconut groves. Also, there is an 800-year-old temple located at a near distance from the beach.

Shivrajpur: Shivrajpur Beach is located near Dwarka, Gujarat. The beach is packed with white sands and crystal-clear blue waters that offer a lot of serenity to the visitors. You can either take a long stroll alongside the beach or even swim in the sea.

Rushikonda: Rushikonda Beach, nestled amidst the lush green plants, is located near the Vizag city in Andhra Pradesh. The beach seems like a paradise with golden sands and pristine seawater with tidy waves. It also offers various water sports such as skiing and surfing.

Kasarkod: Kasarkod Beach is another tranquil site offering an escape from the hustle - bustle of the city life. The beach, located near Honnavar in Karnataka, houses solid waste management plants, grey water treatments plants, clean drinking water and more.

Padubidri: Padubidri Beach, surrounded by coconut trees, is located in the coastal district of Udupi in Karnataka state. Along with offering tranquility, the beach also offers a number of convivial activities throughout the year.

Ghoghla: Ghoghla Beach is a spectacular tourist destination located in the north region of Diu town. The beach attracts a lot of tourists with picturesque natural beauty along with numerous cathedrals and fortresses. Also, it is home to several restaurants serving mouth-watering seafood dishes.

Puri: Puri Beach, also known as the Golden Beach, is located in the city of Puri, Odisha. The beach is a perfect destination for swimming and various other water activities. Also, it houses a lot of magnificent sand sculptures created by Sudarshan Patnaik.

Radhanagar: Radhanagar Beach is one of the major tourist attractions in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The beach, nestled in tropical forests, is offers white sands, pristine waters along with the charming blue sky. Here, you can spend hours enjoying the spectacular views of the sea.
