900d is India's Only Road-Legal ATV!

In the country, the 900D is the only ATV one can ride on the public streets without getting a fine from the cops

In India, the ATV market is limited since it is not seen as a form of transport. The quad-bikes are particularly used for recreational purposes and are found in tourist spots with mountains or beaches. Generally, the ATVs are rented out to visitors who are keen on exploring the mountainous off-road trails or cruising on the shore. In short, ATVs are narrowed to tourist spots and are not accepted on public roads since they are not road-legal and cannot be registered at the regional transport office. However, a wise move from Powerland has turned their 900d ATV into a street-legal vehicle.

How?

As reported above, ATVs cannot be registered at the regional transport office because of which, they are not road-legal vehicles. Most of the ATVs bought in the state are recorded under the tourism bureau and are operated by the sightseers. When Powerland ventured into ATV making, they were not just targeting the tourism industry but also the general population. After tons of inquiry, they ultimately discovered a process of forcing their ATV on the public street with no constitutional issue.

Since Powerland is a tractor manufacturing company, they recorded their 900d ATV as a tractor and not as an ATV. A basic yet wise move finally gave India its first road-legal ATV!

Powerland 900d

To begin with, the 900d is a 4x4 quad bike or ATV from the Goan manufacturer that is equipped with a 749cc V-twin, liquid-cooled engine and spawns a peak power of 20hp and a reasonable torque figure of 45Nm. Runs on diesel, the 900d is mated to a CVT engine that pushes the rear wheel and with the flick of a switch, it can power all the four wheels. While famous ATVs in the market are devoid of a reverse gear, the 900d is an exception with that much-needed feature.

On the highway or the rocky trails, the 900d offers a mileage of around 15 kilometres per litre as opposed to the 20 claimed by the manufacturer. It has a massive 20-litre fuel-tank and therefore, one can tour for over 300 kilometres without worrying about refuelling. The ATV with the 749cc engine can haul over 750 kg (Tata Nano’s kerb weight is 695 kg). Last but not least, an off-road enthusiast can get this monster at INR 4 lakh.
