If you are interested in caving, read on to find out more

There is a different joy altogether in being out in nature. While trekking, hiking, diving, and swimming, are part of it there is also the part of adventure sports done especially in nature. The list is endless. From that endless list is the adventure sport of caving that involves grit, courage, and the joy of wanting to scavenge through the muddy and rocky terrains. So if you are someone interested in the adventure sport of caving, here is a beginner’s guide.

For beginners especially, never venture out alone into the caves

This is the first step toward experiencing this sport. It is the first rule of responsible caving, not going alone. According to experts, being alone in the underground can often result in trouble. For instance, what happens if you twist your ankle or get hurt? Caving always happens in teams, and for beginners, the team comprises at least three people otherwise five people.

Always carry multiple sources of light

Caves are dark inside unless you are exploring a manmade cave. And the only thing that is more useful than ever inside the cave is the lights. While you should always carry more than two sources of light, it is also advised to buckle up some extra batteries. Make sure one of the lights is mounted to the helmet, as it makes it easier to see the path. Also, make sure they are waterproof.

Research well to know what to wear

Remember it is exploring through the muddy and rocky terrains so it is of utmost importance to wear footwear that works against the slippery and rocky paths. Also, caves are natural formations that can drop a rock on your head at any time. So it is also important that the head is covered with a hard helmet. As for the clothing, thin layers of body-hugging stretchable clothing have long sleeves, protective kneepads, elbow pads, and gloves.

Prepare a kit of necessary items to survive

Lastly, pack only important things in the bag pack. All you need to carry in the bag is one change of clothing, undergarments, filling food, water, and a first aid kit. The food and water should be enough to survive the days of caving. The first aid kit should have at least a bandaid and wound cleaning items. And the extra pair of clothes should be lighter than what you are wearing.
