A beginner’s guide to constructing a vision board

If you have been hearing people talk about their vision board, then you are in the right place.

Vision boards have gained momentum in recent times. Many successful people swear by its principles and claim that they work.

Below we give a guide on how to get started on a vision board.

What is a vision board?

A vision board reflects your innermost desires, inspirations and goals in life. From your ideal family and home to your career, a vision board can have pictures of everything that you dream of achieving either in the short-term or long-term.

A vision board helps you organize your thoughts, and makes you reflect if you are taking the right steps to be where you want to be.

What supplies do I need?

There are three main types of vision boards and the supplies for each varies.

  • Physical board
A physical vision board is created on cardboard that you can display in your room or office. It will require magazines, newspapers, a board, pens, glitter, and anything else you need to decorate.
  • Digital board
A digital board is created for your phone or laptop and can be saved as your lock or home image. For this, you need access to free stock images and quotes, and can be created on free apps like canva, etc.
  • Journal board
If you are a regular journaling person, then you can go for a journal vision board. It is created in your journal or diary, and the supplies are the same as for a physical board.

Steps to creating a vision board

  • Define your goals
The very first thing is noting down all the things that are important to you right now. It can be anything ranging from fitness to career and family. Don’t spend more than 10-15 minutes on this section.
  • Search for inspiration
The next step is getting out magazines, newspapers, or Google (for the digital board) and finding images, quotes, and anything else that makes you think of your goal. Don’t count the pictures just yet. Keep cutting whatever you find.
  • Making your board
In this step, you are going to stick the images and quotes you found. You can arrange them in any way you prefer, for eg., having corners for different goals or stick all of them in random order. If you like, then leave the centre of the board for a happy picture of you.
  • Displaying it
Finally, display your beautifully created board where you can see it every day.

Enjoy creating!
