Les Misérables This 1998 film was an adaption of the novel by Victor Hugo of the same name directed by Bille August. It stars Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, and Claire Danes besides Uma Thurman. Just like the original storyline in the book, the film too follows the adult life of Jean Valjean, an ex-convict - who was paroled following 19 years of hard labor, for stealing bread - pursued by police Inspector Javert. Interesting fact, the film's title is based on the letters G, A, T, and C, which stand for guanine, adenine, thymine, and cytosine, the four nucleobases of DNA.

Sweet and Lowdown This Woody Allen film is a dramatic mockumentary showcasing a retrospective about an artist’s life set in the 1930s. The artist is a cocky jazz guitarist named Emmet Ray, played by Sean Penn, who falls in love with a mute woman. The film is loosely based on Federico Fellini's film La Strada.
