Ancient health practices you can still follow

For more than a thousand years, our ancestors had developed and applied several health practices for their wellbeing. Since there was no modern medicine, they had to rely on such methods. Some of them were pretty useful and are still used for the wellbeing and healthy body. So let us get to know some of them below.

Forest Bathing

Made famous by the Japanese, this method involves moving around in the forest and taking in the environment. Felling the rejuvenating effect of the trees and the forest environment helps release stress, anxiety, and depression. I am not saying all this, but researchers and scientists have found forest bathing benefits. It also helps in making the immune system stronger and improving heart health.

Sitting on the floor to eat

Sitting cross-legged has been adopted by Indian ancestors for a very long time. Sitting this way aids in our digestion while having a meal. It also makes us calmer and more conscious of the food we eat. There is also a similar pose practised in yoga called Sukhasana. Sitting this way helps keep our heart healthy since the blood circulation is focused towards the heart and stomach, instead of the blood flowing towards the legs while sitting on a chair and eating.

Always sitting and drinking water

My school sports teacher always told us, students, to sit and drink water after playing. The main reason for it was that when you stand and drink water, it just gushes down the body, not going to the organs it is supposed to. This later might also affect the lower joints and bones and make them weak. So the speed and the position of drinking water affect our body in several ways.

Sunlight as medicine

We often hear people telling us the disadvantages of being in the sun. But, sunlight is an essential aspect of our daily lives. Everyone knows it is the best source of vitamin D, resulting in stronger bones. Besides, sunlight instantly uplifts the mood and even helps in good quality sleep at night. How do you ask? Well, the serotonin you soak up during the day enables you to lull and sleep peacefully at night.

Reflexology

Reflexology has been followed since time immemorial by Chinese and Egyptians. It is an alternative treatment for several ailments, and it is believed that two or more points in our body are interconnected with zones. It is not used much in the medical world, but it improves nerve function, boosts energy levels, improves blood circulation, and provides overall relaxation.

These were some ancient practices that modern people still use; try them out and see any benefits.
