AutoComparo: RE Himalayan vs. Yezdi ADV

Until 2021, Royal Enfield Himalayan’s only close competitor was the KTM ADV 390. However, in 2022, there is a new ADV in town

We knew it was coming, and in January 2022, it finally arrived; the Yezdi ADV armed with a 334cc engine. Earlier, the only hardcore ADVs in the 300-400cc segment were the KTM ADV 390 and the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Given the hefty price-tag of the KTM, the Yezdi is no threat to the Austrian ride. However, for Royal Enfield, the brand-new Yezdi is a concern.

The importance of this article

Given how ADVs are rare in the 300-400cc segment in India, it is important to understand which motorcycle is a better deal. After all, nobody would like to invest over INR 2 lakh and then come back home with a motorcycle that is not satisfactory. Therefore, in this article, we have compared the two motorcycles so that potential buyers can understand the differences between the two (more-or-less symmetrical) motorcycles.

The Yezdi makes more power

The newly-launchedYezdi ADV is powered by a 334cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that makes 30hp of power and 30Nm of torque. The Himalayan, on the other hand, makes 24hp of torque, which is considerably less but slightly more torque of 32Nm. Not to forget, the Yezdi ADV has a six-speed gearbox, whereas the Himalayan continues to run a five-speed gearbox.

The Yezdi also offers more features than the Himalayan

The Yezdi is armed with a USB and Type C charging port along with a fully digital instrument cluster that has Bluetooth connectivity and shows tons of information. Compared to Yezdi, the Himalayan is equipped with a semi-digital instrument cluster that fails to offer the amount of information found on the Yezdi. Not to forget, the Yezdi also has an LED head and taillight; elements that are missed on the Himalayan.

Touring and ADV capability

It is not possible to understand how the two motorcycles function in the real world without testing, but after going through the brochure; the Yezdi makes more sense with its fatter 130mm rear tyre compared to Himalayan’s 120. In the accessories department, both the companies are offering tons of touring accessories such as crash guards and panniers. However, the Yezdi with more power is lighter at 188kgs compared to Himalayan’s 199kgs.

Last but not the least, the price-tags of the two ADVs

The Yezdi is slightly cheaper at INR 2.1-219 lakh, whereas the Himalayan is priced at INR 2.15-2.23 lakh.
