Baazaar: An excellent picturesque of share market

A shrewd excavation of the Dark Side of the share market in India

During the period when controversy is rampant in the film industry, and everyone is preoccupied with the mudslinging of nepotism, Saif Ali Khan has, again and again, come up with some movies that have shaken the whole market in one fell swoop in the last decade. And the exciting part of these films is their enormous earnings even after exposing the entire establishment through the films. And Baazaar, which was released on October 26 2018, is one of those.

The Plot: Adaptation and Reconstruction

The structure and the basic storyline of the film have similarities with Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street” and a part of an American TV series “Billions”, claimed by the critics. But, was there really any other way a film could have been structured if that had an intention to expose the share market so shrewdly? Well, I don’t think so. Aseem Arora and Pervez Sheikh have written the story that is exactly how the big game of the share market runs here, in India and Gauravv K Chawla has designed the entire film with a complete Indian flavour.

Casting: Gems Who Did It

There is a huge star cast in the film. The prime objective of the film, the character of Shakun Kothari, was played by Saif Ali Khan, and he played it like a big sixer. The narrator of the film, the character of Rizwan Ahmed, by debutant actor Rohan Vinod Mehra. The other star casts, Chitrangada Singh, Radhika Apte, Radheya Mehendru, Pawan Chopra, Manish Chowdhury, Miloni Kapadia, played vital characters in the film. Besides them, several new artists played very well in their roles. There is also a special appearance of Elli Avram in the song 'Billionaire'.

Crew Team: People Behind The Camera

Director Gauravv K Chawla took almost all the newcomers in his crew team. The story and screenplay were written by Pervez Sheikh, and dialogues were done by Aseem Arora. A new guy Swapnil Sonawane did the cinematography; editing was done by Arjun Srivastava and Mahir Zaveri. The background score was designed by John Stewart Eduri. Songs composed by Honey Singh, Tanishq Bagchi, Sohail Sen, Kanika Kapoor and Bilal Saed. Eminent singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Arijit Singh, Pratibha Singh, Neha Kakkar, Jyotica Tangri, Simar Kaur, Ikka have worked in this film.

Ratings and Collection

The film earned $5,170,477 worldwide, a huge for an Indian film, but rated 6.6 on IMDb and only 30% on Rotten Tomatoes due to the similarities in structure and storyline with some other movies. But the audience just loved it.
