Bajaj Twinner: Is It an ADV, Neo-Retro or P-Twin?
A few weeks ago, Bajaj trademarked the name ‘Twinner’. Now, the question is; what is it?
Recently, Pune-based motorcycle and scooter manufacturer Bajaj trademarked the moniker of ‘Twinner’. The application was filed by the maker in May 2021. However, it was approved recently on 10 January 2022. Now, the question is, what the Twinner really is? Is it an ADV, a neo-retro, a scrambler or a P-Twin? In the following paragraphs, we have predicted the possible outcomes of the Twinner moniker.
What is the importance of this article?
It has been quite some time since Bajaj launched its Dominar 400 sports-tourer motorcycle. Since then, the company has launched no other 400cc or higher cubic-centimetre capacity motorcycle in the market. Therefore, the Twinner moniker which, to some extent, hints at a parallel-twin offering, is a piece of news worth reading. Not to forget, an ADV or neo-retro from Bajaj should be interesting.
Adventure tourer option from Bajaj
Earlier, the only ideal and affordable ADV-tourer in the 300-400cc Indian market was the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Now, there is a second affordable ADV in the form of Yezdi ADV. Not to forget, the KTM ADV 390 and BMW G 310 GS are also present but with premium price-tags. Who knows? The Twinner could be an affordable ADV-tourer from Bajaj.
Neo-retro or scrambler model from Chakan
Not merely ADV, but Bajaj also offers no models in the neo-retro and scrambler segments. In recent few years, several neo-retro motorcycles have breached the 300-400cc segment of the Indian market. Not to forget, there are some scramblers on offer as well. So, is Bajaj working on a neo-retro or scrambler model?
A motorcycle based on KTM’s upcoming 490cc platform
In the past few months, it has been confirmed that KTM is working on a parallel-twin 490cc platform. The Austrian giant is likely to introduce three motorcycles using its upcoming 490cc platform. Since KTM and Bajaj are brothers, we can expect the 490cc parallel-twin engine strapped to a Bajaj motorcycle from the Chakan-based plant. Maybe a 490cc parallel-twin adventure tourer or scrambler.
Last but not the least, a 650cc parallel-twin engine from Triumph
Apart from KTM, Bajaj also has a relationship with British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph and, as per rumours, Triumph aims to launch an affordable 650cc parallel-twin motorcycle in India through Bajaj. Therefore, a Bajaj motorcycle with Triumph’s 650cc parallel-twinpowerplant could also become a reality.
