Batters with multiple 50s at No. 8 and lower in women's ODIs

Only two batters have scored more than one half-century while batting at number 8 or lower in women's ODIs.

Nicola Browne New Zealand all rounder Nicola Browne had a successful career as a right hand batter and a right hand medium pace bowler. She represented New Zealand in 2 test matches, 125 one day internationals and 54 T20 Internationals.

Browne scored over 2,000 runs from 125 One-day internationals with 10 half centuries. Two of these half centuries came while batting at number 8 in one day international cricket.

She also made 502 runs from 54 matches in T20 Internationals at a strike rate of 113. Not only this, she was quite handy with the ball as well, picking up 88 wickets at 34.14 in one day internationals and 47 wickets at 17.31 in T20 Internationals.

Pooja Vastrakar Pooja Vastrakar struck her maiden half century in ODI cricket against Australia while batting at number 8 back in 2018. She repeated the feat against Pakistan in the 2022 ICC Women's ODI World Cup while batting at number 8.

In the lead up to the world cup, Indian captain Mithali Raj had emphasized that Indian needed to score big given the new trend in women's ODI cricket and that one batter needed to bat through the innings.

"The first game [between New Zealand and West Indies] and even today, watching England versus Australia, I think the wicket is definitely helpful to the batters but 250 is something every team is looking at to put up," Raj said on the eve of the clash. "But it's equally important to have a set batter playing throughout the innings because the wicket is a little on a slower side, so it's not something that a new batter can come in and straightaway get to scoring runs."

On the contrary, India were struggling at 114/6 after 33 overs against Pakistan and things could have really slipped downhill from there on but Pooja gave a reminder of her batting skills as she stitched together a 100+ partnership with number 7 Sneh Rana.

She struck her 2nd half century in ODI cricket and became only the second cricketer to have two 50 + scores while batting at number 8 or lower in women's ODIs, taking India to a 107-run win in the process.
