Beginner Friendly Tips For Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is complex and could easily turn into a dangerous sport for you if you don’t know how to do it right.
Rock climbing is an accessible and welcoming sport for beginners only if you know the correct guidelines to the sport. It’s easy to feel discouraged and lose your heart while trying to figure out the basics of rock climbing. Nonetheless, with the right set of tips and guidelines, climbing rocks would be as easy as reading the back of your hand. Moreover, it must be remembered that rock climbing is a serious mode of work out and can build the strength of your upper body and maintain the heart fitness. Here are some tips for you if you are just getting started into rock climbing.
Choose Your Climb
The first step would be to figure out the route that is suitable for your level of ability. Note that the indoor rock climbing gyms have marks that denote the difficulty level of the climb. If you are a beginner choose climbing routes that are top roped. Top roping refers to the method where the climber has an anchor established from the topmost point of the climb which secures the place of the rope from the beginning of the climb.
Use Appropriate Gear
Gear is the most important part of any climbing exercise including rock climbing. First off, you’ll need a pair of climbing shoes that are comfortable and not tight. Remember that tight shoes would not give you the grip you hope for. Next, you need a bag of a chalk that you would probably carry on your waist. The chalk would help you manage your sweaty hands and not make them slippery when you are climbing. Apart from these, you will need a climbing harness, a helmet and a belay device.
Use Your Core For The Climb
Although, it might seem to you that rock climbing involves harnessing your upper body strength mostly, engaging your core is equally important. Moreover, if you are already trained in gymnastics, Pilates or yoga, it would give you a head start. Also, keep in mind to keep your arms straight while rock climbing.. Bending your arms while climbing would tire you fast. The golden rule is to keep your arms straight and bend your legs. This will give you the push from your lower body that you need during rock climbing.
