Anime explores all kind of relationships. Be it childhood friendship to high school crushes, to mature romance to sempai simp relationships, anime has a knack to navigate various relationship suited to the storytelling. Goku always gives a second chance to his defeated foe a chance for redemption. The foe almost always uses that up for one final attack. Vegeta is different from all the foes. Hiei and Yusuke put aside their differences for the greater good
Yu YuHakusho, one of 90’s fav anime shows the hero’s ability to turn enemies into allies. Yusuke, the hero and a spirit detective gathers a team and Hiei becomes a part of it. Even though Hiei and Yusuke starts off as enemies, Hiei, even with enormous powers chooses to be a friend of Yusuke and remains loyal.
Naruto and Gaara motivated each other to help overcome oppression
Gaara and Naruto have the same backstory. Only Naruto got the acceptance he deserved, Gaara however was threatened and not accepted even by his own family. Admittedly Gaara and Naruto are worthy opponents to each other, it was Naruto who shows Gaara compassion and acceptance for the first time, leaving Gaaraas a friend to Naruto.
Scar understood the Alchemist Brothers and got less hateful
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood had amazing character development, event he antagonists. Scar begins as an avid hater of Ed and Alphonso brothers. Btu with compassion he starts to see the world as less black and white and learns to see the less as an enemy and more of a friend.
Zeke and ErenYaeger forms a shaky alliance
The Yaeger brothers forms an alliance to bring justice to the world. Attack on Titan is fraught with plot twists and even though Eren and Zeke starts off as mortal enemies, they come together to bring justice to the world that has been oppressed for so long.
