Best films based on Stephen King’s works

Stephen King is undoubtedly the father of the horror genre

If you have read his books, you should be familiar with the greatness of his work

Many filmmakers have even adapted his stories into films and series

So here we list a few of the best adaptations of Stephen King's works…

Most of us got introduced to the horror genre in books by reading Stephen King novels. He had the capability of taking a simple setting and making it spooky enough to give you chills while reading. Over the years, several filmmakers have tried to capture this essence of King and his work through films and web series. While not all have succeeded, some of those adaptations are mind-blowing and deserve to be watched over and over again. Here we list some of them…

1408

This is probably one of the best stories ever written by King and also an amazing adaptation of the same. John Cusack, a writer, faces unearthly situations in a hotel room, and every scene is sure to boggle your mind. It is not just scary, but it is so brilliantly made that you will find yourself deep into the story admiring how well the script has been adapted and written.

Pet Sematary

Several critics have stated that this is easily one of King's scariest works ever. And yes, the movie also did justice to that. This 1989 classic has been remade in recent years, too, but if you do want to get a scare in the old fashioned way, go for the older one and watch yourself sleep with the light on at night!

The Shawshank Redemption

In the world of cinema, if there is one film that has served as a big example of good filmmaking, that is this film. There is darkness in the movie, surely. But it also has a strange hopefulness attached to the story that makes this one stand out from the rest of the adaptations.

The Shining

If one had to list the top 5 adaptations of King's work, this would be the top 1. The Shining is scary and also an example of perfect scriptwriting and cinematography. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, this 1980 classic may be old, but it still has the power to give a shudder to its viewers. But the best part will be not just the scares, but how magnificently the director blends them into the scenes!
