Author, lawyer, journalist, and politician, Khushwant Singh was known to be an all-in-one person who rose to fame for not just his books but also his other works. The 99 year old writer and columnist took his last breath on 20th of March, 2014. But he remains forever alive through his witty, serious and emotional writings. One of his most famous works has to be Train to Pakistan which he published in 1956. It was based on his partition experience and is till date considered as one of the best Indian books. Let’s take a look at his other legendary works…

  1. Delhi – Second most famous work of Singh, this too has several personal experiences in it. In fact, it is written in a journalistic way and accounts the historic events like the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. It is said that Singh took almost 25 years to write this novel and it is often called as autobiographical. The novel almost is like a time travel machine and surely worth one read.
  2. I Shall never Hear a Nightingale – This is the second novel that Singh wrote this revolves all around emotions like love, pride, passion and more. It even delves into India’s culture and religion. It’s an engaging story set in British India and while reading you might almost feel like you’re reading a real-life account.
  3. Truth, Love and a Little Malice: An Autobiography – As can be understood from the title of the book, this is Singh’s autobiography where he traces his own life, his family and his work and personal relationships. Interestingly, not many know but the name of the book came to be from a famous column that he wrote for the Hindustan Times with the title "With malice towards one and all."
  4. The Portrait of a Lady: Collected Stories – Read as a part of the ISCE syllabus in India, this collected stories book is a must-have for ever Singh novice or enthusiast. The stories have enough humour as well as depth to make on interested in the author and his other books.
  5. The Sunset Club – Another extremely famous book of Singh, The Sunset Club talks about loneliness and the kind of problems elderly people face. While it shows problems faced in the country, the book also talks about three friends who have been together for years.
