Can it go any meta than this?

Heart of Darkness might be the best documentary about filmmaking, that takes us through the process of a masterpiece Apocalypse Now, there are other movies that do the same. Though not every movie has the grade of the aforementioned films, the trials and triumphs of the filmmaking process is real and out there. These movies are obviously scripted but the realness of what goes on behind the scene, the bloopers, the follies, the leads is just as entertaining.

Close-Up: Abbas Kiarostami’s Close Up is the best film about anything. A young man impersonates a director to impress a girl and cons her wealthy family into thinking they are in his next movie. Kiarostami has used actual people for the movie.

The Artist: A silent film in 2011? A silent film in 2011 set in the black-and-white time of cinema when the talkies was just emerging. Tells the story of Peppy and George in the pivotal moment when cinema was undergoing transformation.

Hitchcock: The titular character Alfred Hitchcock is played none other than Anthony Hopkins. Ed Wood: This 1994 film is not popularized enough given its wonderfully shot with brilliant cast and focuses on the misfits of Hollywood who go on to craft larger than life films with low budget. A film about defying convention in filmmaking. Johnny Depp plays Wood but the Oscar was bagged by Martin Landau for the portrayal of Bela Legosi.

The Dirties: The Dirties follows two film-obsessed who make a film project about two cops who take down bullies. The movie buffs Matt and Owen finds filmmaking as a creative outlet for the bullying they face but when the project gets turned down, they resort to another ravenous plot.

The Bad and the Beautiful: On the way to the top, producer Jonathan Shields ruthless discards those along the way including a movie star, a director and a writer. But is later asked to join a collaborative project with Shields. The opening scene has two cameras kissing, crane shot to the working inside a studio, on an actress. The Bad and the Beautiful shows the treachery and unscrupulous planning that goes inside the industry.
