Although not as big as MotoGP, Superbike World Championship is one of the most celebrated motorcycle racing competitions in the world
The Superbike World Championship is not as famous as MotoGP and therefore, many may not be aware of the racing event. However, the racing event that started in 1988 is followed by tons of fans from various parts of the world. Over the years, the Superbike World Championship has given birth to numerous legends. As a tribute to those racers, we have compiled a list of the best WSBK racers of all time.
Jonathan Rea- If in MotoGP, it is Valentino Rossi; in WBSK, it is Jonathan Rea. The reigning champion of WSBK, Jonathan Rea has picked up the championship on six occasions. Hailing from Northern Ireland, the racer currently races for Team Kawasaki. Rea was named the Irish Motorcyclist of the Year in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2016. Not to forget, Rea was also nominated as the BBC Sportsperson of the Year in 2017. In 2012, Rea took part in two MotoGP races and scored points on both occasions. However, he felt his ideal place was in the WSBK.
Carl Fogarty- Carl Fogarty is a former WSBK racer who still holds the record of winning the second-highest number of races. He started his career in 1988 but did not have a full season till 1991. In his entire career, Fogarty earned four WSBK world championships and 109 podium places. Apart from participating in the WSBK, he also took part in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy and became the TT Formula One World Champion. Not to forget, he also made his mark in MotoGP, Daytona 200, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ulster Grand Prix and the North West 200.
Troy Bayliss- Troy Bayliss joined the WSBK at 31 but his age did not stop him from accomplishing three world championships in 2001, 2006 and 2008. In his entire career, Bayliss started in 152 races picking up 94 podium finishes and winning the first position on 52 occasions. Not to forget, Bayliss also ventured into the world of MotoGP in 2003 where he proved to be a dominant racer. However, the 2004 season was a disastrous one for Bayliss as he often crashed out often. After two seasons in MotoGP, Bayliss re-joined WSBK. Throughout his career, he was a Ducati racer.
