Bet You Didn’t Know! Lesser Known Rules That Formula 1 Drivers Have To Follow

Think you know everything about Formula 1? You probably didn’t know that the drivers need to follow these rules!

If you are a hardcore fan of Formula 1 you probably are familiar with most of the rules of the race and how it works out on the track. However, what you probably didn’t know is that the Formula 1 drivers have certain rules to follow even if it feels like they drive their wheels on their own terms. Since it is a dangerous game, Formula 1 has to be strict with their rules and we don’t mean just on the tracks. Here are some rules that Formula 1 drivers must follow that you probably didn’t know before!

Formula 1 Drivers Must Have A Super Licence

A regular driver’s license of course isn’t enough, duh! All F1 drivers should mandatorily have a Super Licence that is issued by the FIA or Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. In fact, it is not easy to get this licence either. In order to get the Super Licence, one must first clear a written test and also have prior experience as a racer.

All F1 Drivers Should Weigh Themselves After Completing Each Race

This may sound a little nuts but it is the reality. It is possible for F1 drivers to lose four to eight pounds after a trace because of the heated temperature inside a F1 race car. Now, F1 races need the drivers to meet a certain weight. This is the reason why every F1 driver is mandatorily instructed to weigh themselves after completing a race.

Drivers Should Hydrate Themselves During The Race

This is not more of a rule but a necessity. In order to keep the drivers healthy during the race, they are instructed to hydrate themselves in intervals. The temperature conditions inside a F1 car is not the most ideal resulting to a lot of sweating and water loss from the body. In fact, some drivers even have hydration systems installed in their cars. A press of a button on their steering wheel and they would be shot with a sports drink in their mouths to keep them hydrated.

Changing The Racing Number Is Not Easy

A F1 driver cannot just wake up one day and decide to change their racing number. The rule is that only a driver who has won a Formula One racing championship can change their racing number.
