BMW C400 GT: A Maxi-Scooter That India Needs

BMW Motorrad is set to introduce a premium maxi-scooter in India

When it comes to scooters in India, the industry is enormous because scooters are the first choice of the new riders, female riders and aged riders. However, the Indian two-wheeler industry does not offer an expanded spread of maxi-scooters in the province. As of now, the land simply has two maxi-scooters and they are the Suzuki Burgman and the Aprilia SXR 160. However, it seems BMW is prone to alter the plot in India because the German automobile brand is gearing up to launch a mid-sized maxi-scooter in the nation. The news was distributed by the firm via its official tweeter account BMWMotorrad_IN. The company shared a teaser poster and wrote: Are you ready to rise to the next level of urban riding? BMW Motorrad India’s first Maxi-scooter is debuting soon. Watch this space for more!

Named C400 GT, the maxi-scooter is a need in India because several riders in the country crave for a scooter with the power and features of a contemporary-day motorcycle. Already on sale in several countries, the C400 GT is powered by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 350cc engine which is tuned to produce a peak power of 33.5hp at 7,500rpm and a maximum torque of 35Nm at 5,750rpm mated to a CVT transmission. Not to forget, the engine of the scooter is BSVI-compliant.

In terms of features, the foreign-spec C400 GT is crammed with modern-day features such as keyless operation, assist slipper clutch, new Ride-by-Wire tech, heated seats, heated grips, traction control, TFT LCD dashboard, Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging sockets and more. However, it is not possible to confirm at the hour if BMW will make all these features accessible on the Indian-spec C400.

Moving on to the design of the scooter, like every maxi-scooter; the C400 GT has a large front apron that is designed in a sportier fashion with sharp angular lines. In the middle of the apron is an upside-down arrow-shaped full LED headlight unit and near the handlebar, the GT flaunts a tall windscreen. The floorboard is roomy and the seats are well-cushioned and comfy. Overall, the GT looks capable of doing long highway tours.

Finally, about the price tag; we can express nothing at the moment but we predict the price tag to be between INR seven lakh and 10 lakh. However, the company has begun official bookings and the token amount for reservation is set at INR one lakh. Last but not least, the scooter is likely to hit the Indian streets by October or November.
