There are several ways how you can prepare your body polish or ‘ubtan’. For nourishment, use almond flour, sandalwood powder, rice flour and barley flour mixed with milk. To dislodge blackheads and whitehead, use daliya powder, masoor lentils, rice flour, mixed with rose water. You can additionally add, dried lemon peel of orange peel to your ubtan.

To start with the polishing process, first start with a hot shower to open up your pores.

Massage with olive oil or any essential oil. You can also warm up the oil for a therapeutic massage. Try to massage with circular or upward strokes.

Apply your scrub mixture all over your body and using the loofah or a wooden comb rub in circular motions.

Take another hot shower to rinse off the scrub thoroughly.

  • After making you DIY polishing agent, keep it in the refrigerator for 15 mins before using. The ‘ubtan’ being a natural agent has a shelf-life of not more than 15 days.

  • Clean your bathroom floor after a shower as the residue can make the floor slippery
  • If you have oily skin use bath salts in your polish, Brown sugar works wonder for dry skin while shea butter protects the sensitive skin.
It is advisable to try body polishing only twice a month so that body is not eroded of its natural moisture. Skip the procedure if you have open pores, sunburns or cuts.
