Boundary merchant: Batters with most IPL fours

Sixes have become the currency in the IPL, but you think of it, and a four is a much more risk-free option. It reduces the chances of getting dismissed highly and fetches you just two runs less than a lofted shot which sails over the boundary ropes.

Plus, the class of the leg glance or the cover drive is unparalleled. Here's a look at batters with most IPL fours:

  1. Shikhar Dhawan (524)
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan sits at the top of the list of batsmen with most IPL fours. Dhawan gained some form in IPL 2020, hitting back to back centuries. Dhawan appeared in 159 IPL matches in the first 12 seasons of the league and amassed 4579 runs. Out of these, more than 2000 runs have come off fours as the southpaw has hit 524 boundaries.
  1. Suresh Raina (493)
Another Indian left-hander, Suresh Raina, has also been quite prolific when it comes to boundary hitting. The fluent batsman has played 193 matches in the IPL and has scored a total of 5369 runs. Raina is also one of the highest run-scorers in the IPL and has pummelled 493 boundaries in the tournament. He will be itching to return to the IPL in 2021.
  1. Gautam Gambhir (491)
And, they keep coming. Another Indian left-hander occupies the third place in the list. Former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir was an IPL stalwart. Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles and finished his career with Delhi. Gambhir featured in 154 IPL matches and scored 4217 runs. The batsman has the third-most number of boundaries in IPL history with 491 hits to the fence.
  1. Virat Kohli (480)
How could the Indian skipper go missing from any batting list in the IPL? In the first 12 editions of the IPL, Kohli appeared in 177 matches and hit five centuries and 36 half-centuries, piling up 5412 runs in his IPL career. The right-hander sits at the fourth place when it comes to hitting the most number of boundaries with 480 fours.
  1. David Warner (458)
