Breaking Down Wick's Suit
“John will come for you, and you will do nothing because you can do nothing”
In 2014, director Chad Stahelski and actor Keanu Reeves blessed the entertainment world with their neo-noir action movie John Wick. The painful tale of a retired assassin who lost his spouse and later, the boy (Iosef) of his former boss (Viggo) murders his dog and steals his car. The retired assassin Wick turns the metropolis into a burial ground to have revenge. In a clip from the flick, Viggo describes Wick by saying, “John is a man of focus, commitment, sheer will. Something you know very little about.”
The picture keeps revolving around John, taking down Viggo’s fellows to reach Iosef. To keep himself protected in the cinema, the retired assassin wears a special suit made from a rare fabric. In this feature, let’s break down John Wick’s famous black suit.
How does Wick like his suit?
In the movie, Wick is a deadly figure who was presumably in the United States Marine Corps and subsequently, turned into an assassin. He left the life to be with his wife, but she passes away. With so many setbacks in life, John is a man who prefers to keep his things simple. Hence, he puts on a plain all-black suit with black shoes, tie, shirt and belt. The black colour represents the melancholy and bitter face of Wick.
Suit Jacket
Wick’s jacket is a tactical jacket, and it grants him to indulge in close hand-to-hand combat with his enemies and draw weapons quickly from his side and back. Hence, Wick never buttons his jacket in the entire movie as it allows him to move swiftly. On the rear, there are double vents and armholes whereas, on the front, the jacket comprises two buttons, notch lapels and flap pockets.
Suit Pants
Once again, the pants are made for combat situation and hence; they are not skinny or slim but are tapered. This allows Wick to perform martial art moves during his fights in the film. Not to mention, the trousers are stitched above the waistline and maintains a high-rise style.
Accessories
John likes to carry a minimalistic look and hence, he wears black socks, calfskin shoes, black belt and a black-tie along with a Carl F. Bucherer Manero Autodate black watch on the inside of his wrist.
There you have it! The “John Wick’s” famous dress code.
