CB500X: Honda's New Touring Machine

After a lengthy period, Honda has finally joined the middleweight touring segment in India with its CB500X

Honda has introduced the CB500X in India and by doing so, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer has finally penetrated the middleweight touring segment in the state. Launched at INR 6.87 lakh, Honda has wisely priced the motorcycle because of which the CB500X finds itself placed between the Benelli TRK 502 and the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT. Honda will import the newly launched motorcycle into the country via the completely knocked down (CKD) route. Being a premium motorcycle, the company will sell the CB500X in the country via the BigWing showrooms; the premium dealership chain of Honda.

Without further ado, let’s take you through the spec-sheet of the newly launched adventure-tourer motorcycle in the country from the house of Honda.

Powertrain- The Honda CB500X is powered by a 471cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine which is tuned to produce a peak power of 47.5hp and a maximum torque of 43.2Nm. Being a 500cc motorcycle, the figures may not sway you because they are pretty close to the KTM Duke 390 (42.9hp) and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 (38.88hp) which are cheaper than the CB500X. However, CB500X is a twin-cylinder motorcycle when compared to the Duke 390, and that’s why it bears a costly price-tag. Mated to a six-speed gearbox, the motorcycle comprises a slipper clutch system and being a twin-cylinder; we foresee the motorcycle to offer supreme engine refinement and satisfying power delivery on the go.

Suspension and brakes- The CB500X is armed with a 19-inch wheel on the front and a 17-inch on the rear. The front wheel is strengthened with a 310mm disc brake (possibly from Nissin) and the rear one is decked with a 240mm along with a dual-channel ABS. The suspension duties on the motorcycle are managed by a conventional 41mm fork on the front, along with a pre-adjustable monoshock on the rear. At 181mm of ground clearance, the CB500X is a moderately tall motorcycle.

Features- The motorcycle is equipped with the Honda Ignition Security System to thwart theft along with an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS). If a rider brakes abruptly, the ESS will detect the movement and immediately will switch on the hazard lights to warn the surrounding vehicles. Between the handlebars, the motorcycle has an LCD screen that presents information such as speed, gear position and engine temperature to mention a few. Last but not least, the motorcycle being a tourer offers a tall windscreen to deflect the windblast at excessive speeds.
