CEO's Predictions: Five Biggest Risks of AI

Artificial Intelligence has seeped into the fabrics of modern and futuristic workspace scenarios, both existing and anticipated, but at what cost?

Gloomy predictions surrounding the foray of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into workspace are plenty. CEOs of MNCs and start-ups alike have speculated a couple of risks associated with the unprecedented popularity and unhinged intrusion of AI as organisations continue to cheer and favour its adoption.

Dwindling Transparency and Fairness

AI systems, especially deep learning models, are notorious for maintaining a mysterious degree of opacity and complexity in the system which definitely act as a barrier to decision-making or even understanding the underlying rationale of these technologies. This opaqueness often leads to distrust, resistance and confusion among people who are otherwise keen on adopting and utilising the technology.

Confounding Ethical Dilemmas

Lack of transparency in the operation of AI tools and the obscurity that surrounds the working process have questioned the neutrality and accuracy of AI. CEOs have reasons to emphasise the inevitable inaccuracies, bias and discriminations that AI-based outcomes are bound to contain. AI algorithms have been charged with wide-scale social manipulation giving rise to misleading and manipulative media on social networking channels and elsewhere. This leaves a profound impact on employees working in various social institutions and private organisations.

Threatening Levels of Security and Privacy Infringement

It is no secret that AI has led to more serious cybercrimes, exploitations and vulnerabilities in the workplace systems which are being increasingly automated by embedding AI tech. With AI-driven weaponry and other automation assets, bypassing security measures and defences is no big deal either. Albeit organisations are working on a safe and hygienic deployment of AI, without smoother cooperation among netizens, local government and international countries, safe AI in workplaces would remain a pipe dream.

Unjust Concentration of Power

AI deployment is not without the perils of unequal accumulation of power since its use is still confined to large corporations and a small number of government bodies. This confinement could easily imply limited diversity in its applications.

A Cerebral Death

Reliance on AI could spell doom for creativity, critical thinking, individuality, human intuition, and intellectual prowess. This inevitable death of human thoughts is followed by job displacement of low-skilled across various industries. Unless low-skilled workers inculcate new skills, the tragedy of job loss would be enormous. The remedy is to strike a balance between AI intervention and human cognition, but to what extent this equilibrium could be maintained remains a debilitating question.
