CFMoto Expands 250cc Portfolio With 250 CL-X

Based on the CFMoto 250NK platform, Chinese motorcycle manufacturer is aiming to expand its 250cc portfolio with an all-new 250cc neo-retro roadster model

Recently, Chinese motorcycle manufacturer CFMoto revealed the 250 CL-X neo-retro roadster model. The motorcycle is based on the 250NK platform, whereas it draws the design from the elder 700 CL-X sibling. Unfortunately, the motorcycle is unlikely to reach the Indian showrooms. Also, the company has not yet released the official launch date and price-tag of their upcoming roadster.

What is the relevance of this article?

In the 250cc neo-retro segment, there aren’t many motorcycles in the market. Therefore, CFMoto’s upcoming model is likely to find several owners. In case the motorcycle reaches the Indian streets, a good chunk of moto-enthusiasts is prone to purchase the motorcycle because, in the 250cc segment, the only neo-retro model at present is from the house of Husqvarna.

CFMoto CL-X derives power from a 249cc engine

The upcoming CL-X derives power from a 249cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, four-value, DOHC engine that is tuned to produce a peak power of 28hp at 9,200rpm and a maximum torque of 22Nm at 7,250rpm. As of now, no other detail about the motorcycle is available, but since the engine is based on the NK250, we believe the CL-X has the same compression ratio, bore and gearbox.

The gearbox, compression ratio and bore of the NK250

The NK250’s power plant is the same that powers the 250 CL-X. Apart from the displacement and power figures, the compression ratio of 11.3:1, Bore x Stroke of 72 x 61.2mm and the six-speed gearbox are likely to be identical on the CL-X. Not to forget, the CL-X is expected to bear a fuel injection system and an ECU like the NK250.

Features of the CL-X

The 250 CL-X features an upside-down fork at the front, whereas the rear features a mono-shock suspension unit. Unfortunately, at the moment, we do not know the travel they offer. The braking duties are handled by disc brakes on both ends, coupled with ABS for additional safety. Between the handlebars sits a fully-digital instrument cluster that provides tons of information.

What more do we expect from CFMoto?

Since the CL-X is a neo-retro roadster motorcycle that is based on the naked streetfighter NK250, we expect CFMoto to further expand their 200-300cc portfolio with a sports-cruiser motorcycle or a roadster motorcycle in the 300cc segment.
