Creative Uses of Old CDs

Repurpose old CDs in aesthetics to bring back the 90s nostalgia home!

Besides selling off your CD collection in the nearest store for recycling, you may craft memorabilia and simple home décor with them.

Handcrafted Birdbath: The art of making mosaic birdbaths out of terracotta pots is easy and fun. Scrap away the moss that may have been gathering on the pots to render them polished and spotless. Now slice the CDs into tiles before you glue them on the insides of the pot. You will need the shiny, thin layer of the CDs for this project. Meticulously cover the entirety till the pot speckles like a beautiful, antique collectible. If you notice chinks inside, use paint to achieve perfect finesse.

Deck Your Old Mirror: Have a large piece of mirror to play with its décor? Nothing better than sliced CD parts to jazz up the paraphernalia and add some quirk to the bedroom. Measure the corners you want to cover with chunks of CD pieces and hop on the job. Once done, hang the mirror on a wall with minimum décor or props. This will easily bring about the extra zing you have put on the mirror!

Turn into Dreamcatchers: The ton of CDs wasting away in the dusty corner can actually be converted into pretty dreamcatchers. The project requires you to deftly wrap around yarn and weave them with strings till you dangle a dreamcatcher knitted in threads, beads and colours. Glue sparkles or little mirrors in the centre to do the magic!

Designed Shirt Collar: The spree of experimentation with CDs is maddening. The specks of dazzling light can turn even the blandest apparel chic and fashionable. Soak the CDs in boiling water for five minutes. Let them cool off and cut across the middle and centre hole. Peel off the shiny layer and cut them into angular pieces. Paste them on the collar and leave the cloth overnight to dry. Now don the blouse with or without any extra accessories. Ta-da! Your party dress is ready.

Creative Photography: CDs are pretty handy when you are trying to hone a rainbow effect in the photo without ruining its aesthetic. Simply switch on the phone’s torch and pass the light through the CD. Hold both these objects in front of the camera to nail the desired effect. Make sure to use a timer and tripod if it is a self-shoot. Nonetheless, CDs are interesting in creating amazing visual narratives in still photography.
