Cutting Back On Toxic Relationships? Real Ways Of Ignoring Someone Without Hurting Their Feelings

Setting boundaries is a good thing!

Sometimes the silent treatment is just what you need to reject a person in your life. If you are in a toxic relationship, platonic or romantic, the best way to cut yourself to some slack is by alienating from them. However, you may want to do that without hurting the other person’s feelings. Here are some ways you can ignore someone without hurting their feelings!

First, Tie Up The Loose Ends

It is impossible to ignore someone if you have any obligations attached to them. For example, you may have bought tickets together to something or even split the bill on something. Unless you tie such loose ends there remains the chance that you might have to get in touch them. Get rid of any such obligations that might force you into a situation where you have to spend time together or even talk to each other. Before you cut the person out of your life, make sure to tie the loose ends!

‘No’ Is The Keyword Here

Learn to say no, if you are not that great at it. Any requests that might come directly or indirectly from the person you wish to ignore should end in a hard and solid ‘No’. If you don’t say ‘no’ to any request that might involve them even remotely, you might be sending out mixed signals and that’s not fair. ‘No’ is the most final word that could help you get rid of someone without hurting their feelings in the long run.

Do Not Receive Any Gifts Or Favours From Them

Politely refuse to accept any sort of gifts that may come from them. If you accept gifts or favours from someone you want to ignore, you are tying yourself to them and it would soon become a pattern. Exert your willpower into returning any sort of deliveries or gifts from them. Also, remember not to ask favours from them no matter how challenging a situation turns out to be.

Your Body Language Can Say A Lot

If you find yourself incapable or uncomfortable in saying no to the person you are trying to ignore, your body language could do that for you. Having a closed body language could offer them signs that you are interested in talking or spending time with them. If they are capable of taking hints, this would be your way out!
