Dangerous runways in the world.

The world we live in is a giant amusement park with lots of fun and thrilling rides.

When we look around, we find dozens of topics inspiring us to make a countdown list. Similarly, here we will be talking about the list of dangerous runways in this world. Yes, you are reading it right. Honestly, travelling via aeroplane is a whole other experience for most of us- the tickle in the belly is real. When the flight speeds up on the runway or faces turbulence, we can hear our heartbeats go faster.

Did you know that runways at airports can be scarier? These runways are known to send shivers down the people’s spines.

Agatti Aerodrome, India. It is in one of India’s union territories, Lakshadweep. Agatti Aerodrome (AGX) is the only airport in the archipelago which serves around 36 country’s tourist islands. The 4000 feet long runway lies off in the blue waters of the west coast, India.

Tenzing-Hillary Airport, Nepal. Formerly known as the Lukla Airport, it got rated as one of the dangerous airports in the world for more than 20 years in a row. It is at an altitude of 8000 feet, nearby the Mount Everest base camp. Therefore, the runways are very short. Also, the Tenzing-Hillary airport lacks a modern air-traffic control system and very little electricity.

Toncontin International Airport, Honduras. This military and civil airport entered the list of the most extreme airports because of its location. Situated 6 km from the centre of Tegucigalpa, Toncontin International Airport has extremely short airstrips. Therefore, pilots need to be careful about the mountains nearby.

Barra International Airport, Scotland. The airport is at the northernmost tip of Barra Island at the Traigh Mhor bay. The Barra International Airport is unique and dangerous because the beach serves as a runway for every flight here.

Ice Runway, Antarctica. It serves as the crucial runway for the US Antarctic Program. It is the world’s only airport without any actual runway, but manicured ice and snow acts like one. Therefore, the flights need to be very careful while taking off or landing to avoid accidents and ensure no cracks happen on the runway. Ice Runway is capable of handling medium to large-sized aeroplanes.

Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, Saba. Named after the minister, the Juancho E. Yransquin Airport has the shortest runways; it is only 400 meters long. The airport location is breathtaking because it has hills on one side and the ocean on the other. It is risky yet thrilling to travel from this airport.
