Decoding the Alien Tech-Suit of 'The Predator'

Over the generations, Predators in the Predator movie series have been shown using various uber-cool and futuristic pieces of technology

The early part of the Predator movie appeared in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and turned into an instant hit. In the film, an alien named Predator hunted Arnold and his unit of army rangers in the woods of Guatemala. To wipe out the line-up, the Predator was shown using futuristic weapons. Furthermore, the Predator was also shown sporting an unusual suit and helmet along with several pieces of technology attached to them.

In the Predator movie franchise, the Predator is a species called Yautja who are smarter, skilled, physically powerful and are technologically more advanced than humans. In this column, we deliver to you the intricate details about the Predator’s tech-suit.

Suit- The Predators wear a peculiar helmet that bears several features and is linked to a digital gauntlet on the wrist. The helmet is a bio-helmet that responds as a respirator and also shields the head since it is made up of an extraordinarily hard unknown/alien material. Using the helmet, the Predators can switch to different vision modes such as thermal vision, night vision, ultraviolet and electromagnetic spectra mode.

The Yautja species wear two different suits. One suit is created for hunting, whereas a special one is used during wars. The suit comprises breastplates along with other armours equipped to protect all the parts of the body. The suits are also armed with an automatic climate control system that favours the Predators to sustain in diverse climatic conditions.

Gauntlet- The gauntlet on the wrist of the Predators is their primary control device. Using the gauntlet, the Predators can sabotage a gigantic territory as the gauntlet itself is an explosive device. The gauntlet also grants the Predators to employ a clocking effect (invisibility) that helps them hide in plain sight. Furthermore, the gauntlet can transmit high electric frequencies to damage nearby electrical equipment and bind enemies in no time.

Apart from these features, the gauntlet helps the Predators to complete various other crucial tasks during a mission. The gauntlet acts as a grappling hook, which is operated by the Yautja tribe to ascend steep places. In terms of tracking and spying, the gauntlet has three devices such as the Falcon (spying device), a tag (tagging preys) and a Beacon (navigation device). Last but not least, the gauntlet also acts as the medi-kit of the Predators.
