He started his acting journey with the British Television series 'Skins' and in 2008, got his first lead role in the film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Slumdog Millionaire (2008): Being the debut film of Dev Patel, 'Slumdog Millionaire' showcased his wide range as an actor. The Man Who Knew Infinity (2015): Written and directed by Matthew Brown, the film revolves around the life and journey of the genius Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Based on Robert Kanigel's book of the same name, the film depicts Ramanujan's upbringing in India, his interests towards mathematics, his interaction with Cambridge University's professor G. H. Lion (2016): Directed by Garth Davis, 'Lion' is a heart-wrenching movie that will leave you spellbound. Based on a remarkable true story, the film revolves around Saroo, an Indian kid who gets separated from his family and after surviving a lot, is finally adopted by a Australian couple. Dev Patel played the older Saroo who feels sad by the memories of his childhood and finally finds his own family with the help of Google Earth. The character is complex, intense and layered and the way Patel pulled off each subtle emotion of grown-up Saroo on screen, is truly commendable.

Hotel Mumbai (2018): Based on the terrifying terrorist attack at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai in 2008, 'Hotel Mumbai' is a gripping thriller movie that will put you at the edge of your seat. Patel essayed the role of a hotel waiter called Arjun who risks everything to save the guests as well as other staffs in the hotel. The character is extremely well written, and Patel did full justice to the role.
