Different varieties of Mangoes you can find in India

India is truly the land of Mangoes.

The juicy fruit Mango, which is rightly termed as the king of fruits, has some 1500 varieties grown in India. From their distinct taste, shape and colour, the varieties of mangoes in India are quite varied, and we must say, they all taste so good that you will want to keep eating them. From the Gulab Khas or Sindhura and Ratnagiri Alphonso, we tell you a list of different types of Indian mangoes:

Totapuri

This variety of mango has a mild taste and is greenish in colour. It looks like it has a parrot’s beak and is commonly grown in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. You can use it to make salads and pickles.

Hapus

Belonging to Maharashtra, Hapus is also grown in Gujarat and some parts of Karnataka. It is also exported outside the country and is famous for its distinct aroma, saffron-coloured flesh and no hint of fibre.

Sindhura

This variant of mango is sweet with a slight tanginess and aroma that lingers in your mouth. It has a good yellow colour pulp with red on the outside.

Ratnagiri

The famous 'Ratnagiri Aam' hails from the Maharashtra region of Ratnagiri, Devgarh, Raigad, and Konkan. Nonetheless, the Alphonso Mango is one of the best varieties of mango and certainly the most expensive one. It has a distinct flavour.

Chausa

It is widely popular in North India and Bihar and was apparently introduced by Sher Shah Suri during his reign in the sixteenth century. It has an incredibly sweet pulp and bright yellow skin.

Raspuri

Originally consumed in Old Mysuru of Karnataka, Raspuri is rightly called the Queen of Mangoes, thanks to its taste. It can be used to make yoghurt, smoothie and jam.

Neelam

Usually found in abundance in June, Neelam varieties of mango are tiny in comparison to others with orange skin. They are also smaller in size.

Malgova

Malgova or Malgoa has a green colour with shades of yellow. Mostly available in May and June, this variety has a roundish-oblique shape.

Malda

Known as 'King of Mangoes' in Bihar, the Malda mangoes are completely non-fibrous and have a sweet-sour flavour with a delicious pulp.

Langra

Originated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Langra aam is available from July to August and is green in colour even when it is ripe.

Kesar

It is one of the most expensive varieties and is mostly found in Ahmedabad and Gujarat. It is named so as it has a hint of kesar in its fragrance, which makes it special.
