Easiest Way to Book Your High-Security Number Plate

The new HSRP number plate cannot be tampered easily and thus, it prevents thieves from stealing vehicles easily

A few months ago, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) launched the high-security registration plate (HSRP) which is a unique number plate that cannot be tampered easily and therefore, car thieves will choose not to steal vehicles with the high-security registration plates. For this reason, it is a perfect time for you to change your old number plate and take the modern one. Before we pen down the procedures to obtain the HSRP, let’s run you through the definition and benefits of HSRP.

What precisely is HSRP?

HSRP is made of aluminium and acts as a high-security number plate, which is equipped on the front and rear side of a vehicle with the help of two non-reusable bolts. On the number plate, a chromium hologram of the Ashoka Chakra is imprinted via hot stamping to prohibit counterfeiting. The hologram is engraved on the top left-hand corner of the number plate.

There’s also a permanent identification number of 10 digits, laser printed on a reflective sheet at the bottom left-hand side of the number plate. Once the number plate is installed on the vehicle, details about the vehicle such as engine number and chassis number are electronically recorded and stored in a centralized database.

Benefits

As reported in the introductory paragraph, the special number plate makes it troublesome for thieves to steal vehicles because non-reusable bolts cannot be taken off easily. Furthermore, the centralized database helps to identify stolen vehicles in a quick and effortless technique.

How to book your number plate?

At present, the HSRP is available only for vehicles and residents of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. In the months to come, the high-security number plate will be available in all the states of India.

To book your number plate, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Visit the government authorized web portal (https://bookmyhsrp.com/).
  • Fill in the details about your vehicle such as the vehicle number, chassis number, engine number, fuel type, address on which the car is registered and the owner’s contact number.
  • Under the vehicle classification option, click on “non-transport” if your vehicle is only for personal use and not for commercial use.
  • Log-in by submitting a username and password. Once done, a message will be sent on the registered number.
  • Once the HSRP number is ready, the consumer will receive a text message and he or she can get it fixed from the government authorized centre.
The average cost for the HSRP number varies from INR 400 to INR 1,000 depending on the state and the type of the vehicle.
