Eight Easy Steps To Get The Perfect Dip-Dye At Home
Dip-dyeing is a fun way to explore funky hair colors that adds character to your hair.
One of the selling points of dip dyeing your hair is that you can easily trim off the dyed ends anytime you want. This fun style is also very easy to do at home. Have you been waiting to give dip-dye a try? Keep reading for a step-by-step guide to getting the perfect dip-dye look.
Step 1: Pick a color
This is the step that most people tend to have fun with. Some people take little time to decide, while others take a little longer to decide which color they want to go for. Dip-dyeing can be as bold or as subtle as you want it to be!
Step 2: Choose a length where the dip-dye ends
The second step can require quite a bit of thinking to decide how much of your hair do you actually want to dip-dye. If you are dip-dyeing for the first time, you can opt for a small amount at the ends of the hair, to keep it subtle. On the other hand, for a more dramatic look, you can go for a larger part of your hair.
Step 3: Bleaching
For the most vibrant shade of color, you need to begin by bleaching the ends of your hair. If you want to cause less damage to your hair, opt for a developer with a weaker volume like 20. Divide your hair into multiple sections and apply the bleach. Wrap up the bleached section with tin foil to incubate and trap the heat to accelerate the process. Leave the bleach for 20 minutes and wash it away.
Step 4: Washing and conditioning
Rinse off the bleach from your hair and apply a toning shampoo to remove the dull and brassy tones from your bleached hair. Apply purple shampoo and leave it for a couple of minutes to get it to work, and wash it off. Follow up with a conditioner.
Step 5: Re-bleaching if necessary
If you think that the bleach hasn’t lightened your hair properly, you may need to re-bleach it to get a vibrant color.
Step 6: Condition to reduce damage
Apply conditioner a couple of inches above the bleached portion of your hair to prevent the dye from traveling too far up your hair. This process also helps the color to fade into your natural hair color.
Step 7: Apply the dye
Evenly spread the dye on your bleached ends and wrap it up with tin foil. Leave it for 45 minutes to allow the color to soak properly.
Step 8: Rinse, dry, and style
Thoroughly rinse your hair again and apply a color-protecting conditioner to help retain the color for a longer time. Once you are done, dry your hair and style it as you like.
