Europe is catching up to American players: 4 greatest European players in the NBA
European basketball has always been viewed as subpar compared to the United States!
The basketball community has always looked towards America when it comes to producing high-quality prospects in terms of the NBA. Right from the inception of the league, players with exceptional talent have been homegrown college athletes who later blossomed into NBA superstars. Through the 1990s, however, the narrative has been somewhat shifting. European players have contributed enough over the past few years. That is the reason NBA scouts are now looking for talents all over Europe and their professional leagues. Even in the present scenario, the future superstars and upcoming players are mostly from Europe. This phenomenon has occurred due to players in the past laying a solid foundation.
Dirk Nowitzki
Considered to be among the finest modern players in the NBA, Dirk Nowitzki hails from Germany. Nowitzki is one of the finest examples of European-style basketball. In his twenty-one-season career, Dirk has proven his greatness every step of the way. Standing at a height of 7 feet, this center played for the Dallas Mavericks and brought the franchise's first-ever NBA championship in 2011. The list of his accolades includes a regular-season MVP, a finals MVP, and fourteen all-star appearances. To top it all off, he was also inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Tony Parker
Parker, a French national, was a part of the most dominating trio in basketball. This, of course, included the great Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. Tony Parker played for the San Antonio Spurs and had a huge impact on the team's winning culture. The trio won four NBA championships together in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. One of those championships in 2007 can be attributed solely to his phenomenal performance. His accolades include a finals MVP and six all-star appearances. Parker's impact on the game, however, doesn't end here; he is supposedly one of the biggest inspirations of Victor Wembanyama, the next face of the NBA who is also a French national.
Nikola Jokic
The Last few years in the league have belonged to Serbian athlete Nikola Jokic, as he 'bullied' his way through the entire league. Jokic has established himself as the most dangerous center. He won back-to-back regular-season MVPs. His crowning moment, however, came recently when he won his first-ever NBA championship and was awarded finals MVP.
Giannis Antetekounmpo
Giannis, or the 'Greek Freak' has also been one of the league's most popular faces in recent years. As a leader of the Milwaukee Bucks, he led the team to a championship win, dominating from both ends of the floor. Giannis, too, has won two back-to-back regular-season MVPs and shows no signs of slowing down in the future!
